José Carlos Dias (OAB/SP – 16.009) was born on April 30, 1939 in the city of São Paulo. He has a law degree from the São Paulo University Law School (1963). He chaired the Justice and Peace Commission of the Archdiocese of São Paulo (1979-80), was Secretary ofJustice for the State of São Paulo (1983-86), Brazil´s Justice Minister (1999-2000), coordinator of the National Commission of Truth (2011-2014) and was a member of the Board of OSESP – Symphonic Orchestra of the State of São Paulo. He is a member of the Board of IDDD – Institute for Defense of the Right to Defense,and President of the Arns Comission for Human Rights Defence. Dias wrote two poetry books – Miragens do meu Deserto (Editora Talarico, 1953) and Vozes Perdidas (Editora Saraiva, 1957).
